New Delhi: The Congress office in Delhi witnessed violent scenes on Monday night when the supporters of two probable candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections clashed with each other.
The incident occured when supporters of Jayshree Pawar created a ruckus at the Congress office after she was denied a ticket Greater Kailash constituency.
Congress alloted the party ticket to Jitendra Kochar to contest against the BJP's Chief ministerial candidate VK Malhotra. Pawar alleged that her name was replaced by Jitendra Kochar's at the last moment.
Her supporters smashed the glass panes of Delhi Congress president JP Aggarwal's car - who allegedly favours Kochar.
Jayshree Pawar's husband, Surendra Pawar was injured in the violence and has been admitted to a hospital.
Trying to play down the incident, Aggarwal denied that those behind the vandalisation were from the party.
“I don't know who are behind the incident. We have registered a complaint at the Indraprastha Police Station and asked for stringent action against those involved in it,” Aggarwal was quoted by agencies as saying.
There was a lot of confusion and lobbying over Congress party candidates for the Delhi elections. The list of 22 candidates was released just a day before the nomination process closes on Tuesday.
SHEILA DIKSHIT DECLARES
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit's popularity may not have gone up in the past five years but her assets definitely have.
She has declared total assets worth Rs 1.2 crore when she filed her nomination papers on Monday, though some of her Cabinet colleagues appear to have outstripped her in their income.
