Birbhum: Violence-torn Birbhum continues to remain a political arena days after clashes broke out between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress workers.

With Section 144 imposed in the region, BJP workers carrying relief material to the violence-torn Birbhum district of West Bengal were stopped by the police on Sunday in Mangaldihi. Villagers in the district are facing major difficulties due to the prohibitive order.

Social activist Golan Gangopadhyay was arrested by the police for talking to villagers. She was released on bail later.

The Congress workers led by state party chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were also stopped by the police on Saturday. They had demanded the district administration to lift curfew from the region. It had given an ultimatum of 2-4 days and said it will be back with a larger force in seven days if its demands are not met.
