New Delhi: UPA-Left candidate Pratibha Patil filed her nomination for Presidential polls at the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Saturday morning.
Patil filed the nomination before the Returning Officer and Lok Sabha Secretary General P D T Achary.
Patil was accompanied by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, along with Cabinet Ministers Lalu Prasad, Sharad Pawar, Ramvilas Paswan, T R Balu and Pranab Mukherjee, among others.
Left leaders Sitaram Yechury, Gurudas Dasgupta and Abani Roy were also present at the venue.
Earlier, Patil visited Rajghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi to pay her tribute, reported PTI.
However, on Friday, allegations of involvement in a murder case and then a Rs 17 crore bank-fraud tainted Patil’s image of a ‘clean’ politician.
Her chances of becoming the first woman president of the country could be jeopadised now.
Patil had resigned from the post of the Rajasthan Governor on Thursday. She had given her resignation to President A P J Abdul Kalam, thanking him for his guidance.
