OROP Suicide Row: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Released After Six-Hour Detention
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was on Wednesday stopped at the Lady Hardinge hospital where dead ex-serviceman Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal's post-mortem is being conducted after Delhi Police detained Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia after they tried to meet the kin of dead ex-serviceman Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal at Delhi's RML Hospital

New Delhi: The alleged suicide of an ex-servicemen reportedly over the government’s “failure” to implement the one-rank, one-pension scheme, took a sharp political turn on Wednesday when politicians making a beeline to meet his family were detained by the Delhi Police.

While Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was stopped from entering the Lady Hardinge Hospital, where the body of Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal was kept for post-mortem, his deputy Manish Sisodia was detained at the RML Hospital where he tried to meet the relatives of the deceased veteran. The 70-year-old veteran’s body was kept at the RML Hospital before being moved to Lady Hardinge.

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi was also prevented from entering the RML Hospital and detained at the Mandir Marg police station for 70 minutes before being released. Hours later, he was detained again while trying to meet the veteran’s family. Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia was also detained.

Grewal, from Haryana’s Bhiwani district, allegedly consumed poison in the lawns behind the Jawahar Bhavan, which houses the Ministry of External Affairs, on Tuesday evening.

Police said he along with three of his companions had come to the city apparently to submit a memorandum to the Defence Ministry over the issue of OROP.
