Shajapur: A Congress leader, who was denied party ticket from the district's Agar constituency for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, allegedly committed suicide on Thursday, police said.
Narsingh had never contested state elections and was disappointed this time after he was denied a ticket by the party for upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. Instead, another candidate Madhu Gehlot has been chosen by the party.
Narsingh Malaviya (40), who was under depression for the last one week, consumed poison on Thursday morning at his residence in Agar in a bid to end his life, they said. He was rushed to a hospital in Ujjain in a serious condition, where he succumbed, they said.
Narsingh, an office-bearer in the district party unit, was said to be a strong supporter of Congress MP Sajjan Singh Verma, who also stated that the leader was under depression after he was refused a ticket to contest the elections.
The Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh will be on November 25 and its a direct contest between Bharatiya Janata Party's Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Congress' Jyotiraditya Scindia. If Chouhan wins the election, then he will serve as the chief minister for the third time. The result will be declared on December 8.
