New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party leadership is firm on having the next chief minister of Maharashtra from the party even as it is short of reaching the halfway mark, sources told CNN-IBN.
There will be no rotational CM as was suggested in some reports earlier in the day, said highly placed sources in the party. The sources also confirmed that Maharashtra BJP chief Devendra Fadnavis is the front-runner for the post of CM.
"BJP will set the terms of post-poll alliance with any party keeping with the spirit of the mandate that the party has got in the elections," said the sources.
BJP and its ally together have 123 seats in 288-member Maharashtra Assembly. It needs 22 more seats to reach the halfway mark of 145. Reports suggest that the saffron brigade has kept its options open for an alliance with the Shiv Sena or the Nationalist Congress Party.
