New Delhi: In Bihar, the Lok Janshakti Party says its ready to contest the general elections alone.
LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan says that unless there is a favourable seat-sharing agreement in Bihar, his party will contest the elections alone to all the 40 seats.
The LJP is currently a constituent of the ruling UPA at the Centre. However, Paswan remained non-committal about the tie up with Lalu Prasad-led RJD. When asked about an alliance with RJD in Bihar, the Union Minister for Chemical and Fertilisers and Steel declined to comment on the matter.
We want to continue our electoral alliance with Congress, but tie with other partners of the UPA will depend on the political situation prevailing in the country, Paswan said in Sonepat on Tuesday evening.
The LJP leader though has made it clear that as long as he is with the UPA, the party would support Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister. The comment came even as the National Dalit Front demanded that Paswan should be made the UPA's PM candidate.
The party had earlier said that it would contest on as many as 16 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. Paswan also indicated that the party would contest the Lok Sabha elections in other states also but did not divulge the names of them.
During 2004 general elections, Congress had contested on four seats in Bihar, while LJP and RJD had fielded eight and 26 candidates respectively. In total, the state has 40 parliamentary constituencies.
