K'taka: Kumaraswamy's fast enters second day
The Karnataka Chief Minister has appealed to the JDS leader to end his fast keeping in mind his health condition.

Bangalore: The indefinite fast by JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy demanding a CBI probe into ruling BJP's allegation that he and his family had amassed illegal wealth of Rs 1,500 crore entered its second day on Sunday with Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa appealing to him to call it off.

Yeddyurappa on Sunday deputed a three member-ministerial team led by Home Minister R Ashok with a letter to the fasting site inviting Kumaraswamy for talks on his demand, but ruled out conceding the demand for CBI probe.

Sources close to Kumaraswamy told PTI here that Yeddyurappa in his letter has reiterated BJP's opposition to a CBI probe as the party has no faith in the investigating agency.

However, in an effort to mollify the JDS leader, Yeddyurappa offered to withdraw the title "chargesheet" on the booklet released on the alleged assets of the family members of former Prime Minister Devegowda, including his son Kumaraswamy, two weeks ago.

Yeddyurappa also said he was ready for talks with the Kumaraswamy, with whom he had shared power in 2006 under a coalition arrangement, to find a solution and requested him to call off the fast in the interest of his health condition.

Besides Ashoka, Minister for Labour BN Bacchegowda and Minister for Housing V Somanna held talks with Kumaraswamy to convince him to end the fast. But Kumaraswamy told his partymen that he would continue the fast.

Ashoka told reporters after meeting Kumaraswamy that the Chief Minister has appealed to the JDS leader to end his fast keeping in mind his health condition.

He said Kumaraswamy has been told that some of the allegations levelled against him have been before some court and Lokayukta probe and it was better to await their verdict.
