Kerala vigilance court orders inquiry against excise minister in bar bribe case
Thrissur vigilance court has ordered the state vigilance department to conduct an inquiry by a registering case against Excise Minister K Babu in the bar bribe case.

Thiruvananthapuram: Thrissur vigilance court has ordered the state vigilance department to conduct an inquiry by a registering case against Excise Minister K Babu in the bar bribe case. Report has to be submitted by February 22.

The court has made sharp comments on the vigilance department over the delay in submitting the quick verification report. When the vigilance asked for a month's time to submit the report the court retorted that it had already given one and a half month's time and asked what the vigilance team was doing during this time.

The court also asked if the accused has been questioned and whether his house and bank records checked. Vigilance department replied that it was done earlier and the report had been submitted at the Lokayukta court and the one-month time has been asked for to collect the reports.

The court further asked, "Since the Lokayukta is functioning, do you think that the vigilance court has been closed. If the officials had the honesty, commitment and willpower, the report could have been submitted within 10 days."

Kerala is facing Assembly elections in the next few months, possibly in April and May.
