The run-up to the results day had many politicians and candidates changing their Twitter profile pictures. K.T. Rama Rao, IT Minister in the current TRS led government in Telangana, followed suit and changed his profile picture last night. This news wouldn’t have created ripples, except in the picture we see Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, aiming a gun at the spectator across the scene. Well, what was KTR thinking?
Earlier this month, Rama Rao dismissed Former MP and former Congress Leader Lagadapati Rajagopal’s pre-poll survey that predicted a win for the Congress-led people’s alliance Prajakutami if the voting percentage crossed 68%. In the tweet KTR called the survey concocted and criticized Rajagopal for “playing mind games”. Subsequently, KTR made headlines when he vowed to quit politics if TRS lost the elections. Perhaps KTR thought it was time to literally take a shot at the opposition candidates.
The son of the incumbent Chief Minister, Chandrashekhar Rao, KTR began his political career in 2009 in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Elections. He was one of the 10 ministers who quit the Legislative Assembly and joined the TRS around the time when the party under Rao had begun to rally for a separate state of Telangana.

He has also compared himself to Hrithik Roshan’s character in Lakshya, an aimless drifter who eventually discovers his passion as a soldier in the army. Whatever KTR’s intention might have been, the profile picture is very telling of this allusion.
At the time of writing this, TRS is ahead in Telangana, with leads in 84 seats. Follow our live updates on what’s happening in Telangana here.
