New Delhi: Regional political parties would want their pound of flesh to support a Government at the Centre. Here is what some of them want.
BAHUJAN SAMAJWADI PARTY
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, whose Bahujan Samaj Party is expected to get a sizable number of seats, is being courted by the Congress and the NDA. She is likely to demand plum portfolios at the Centre and dismissal of corruption cases against her.
SAMAJWADI PARTY
SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav would demand at least three to four key portfolios in the Union Cabinet. The SP is also demanding that cases against Mulayam be dismissed.
AIADMK
AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa is being wooed by all the three fronts. She wants the Congress to withdraw support to the DMK-led government in Tamil Nadu.
TELUGU DESAM PARTY
TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has a similar demand. He wants to be the Andhra Chief Minister at all costs. Although a part of the Third Front, he is being canvassed by the NDA.
BIJU JANATA DAL
BJD chief and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is demanding more central funds for Orissa, and a larger role at the Centre. Patnaik also wants support in case Assembly elections result in a hung verdict.
JANATA DAL-SECULAR
The JD-S plans to go with the NDA or the UPA if either of them is ready to strike a deal at the state and the centre. Sources say the JD-S may insist on the mines portfolio.
RASHTRIYA LOK DAL
Ajit Singh's party is right now with the NDA, but could switch sides if its promised a central ministry.
