New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has made it clear that the party is not going to rock the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government. Though Trinamool leaders indicated that there were some issues on which the party was not on the same plane with the Congress, but added that there was no question mark over the stability of the Central Government.
"The government is stable. We are with the UPA. If a state government invites us then we will go," replied Trinamool MP and Union Minister of State, Health and Family Welfare, Sudip Bandopadhyay when asked why his party had accepted the invitation to attend the swearing-in ceremonies of the chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
"We are allies of the UPA. We do have issues and problems, which we will discuss and try to solve. Several issues of West Bengal are being ignored. In a federal structure, a state government should be treated well. We will discuss about this matter. If required we will take up these issues in the House. The government should talk to our leader Mamata Banerjee. Issues like NCTC, Lokpal etc can be solved through discussion. Wherever we have a reservation, issues we will speak to the government," said another Trinamool MP and Union Minister of State, Tourism, Sultan Ahmed.
Earlier on Monday Prime Minister Manmohan Singh claimed that his government was not under threat enjoyed majority support in the Lok Sabha.
"Pressure is part of Parliamentary life. We are willing to discuss and debate all issues in Parliament. I am confident we have all the numbers we need," Singh said.
The UPA enjoys the support of 276 MPs in the 545-member Lok Sabha. The Congress has 206 MPs, Trinamool 19, DMK 18, NCP 9, RLD 5, National Conference 3 and others 16. The parties extending outside support to the UPA have 47 members and include the BSP (21), Samajwadi Party (22) and RJD (4)
The Opposition included the NDA which has 151 MPs and the Left and other smaller parties and independents who are 68 in number.
