Panaji: The Goa government has allegedly spent crores on travel marts and roadshows across the world. According to the details accessed by CNN-IBN, the Goa government spent Rs 23 crore to organise roadshows from 2012 to 2016 in Budapest, Prague, Lisbon, Seoul.

Health Minister, Water Department official also went on tourism junket. The BJP government defended the expenditure claiming it is to promote tourism.

State Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said, "Goa is a tourist place and there is a need to attract more tourists. We need to go across the world and participate in road shows and exhibitions. If we need a world class infrastructure in Goa, then we should go for various road shows."

Charging the state government of misusing funds, Congress claimed that Goa doesn't get visitors from these locations.

Congress leader Digambar Kamat said, "Goa is branded now across the globe, you don't require much introduction to Goa and you participate in the fairs, exhibition whereever they are required to be participated. Holding some road shows at places from where normally tourist doesn't come to Goa is a waste of money."
