Exit Poll Results Live: 7/7 Pollsters Predict BJP Will Come First in Uttar Pradesh
They were pitted as the referendum on Modi government’s demonetisation and a prequel to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Less than 48 hours from now, we will know who won the states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand. Is the heavy turnout in these states indicative of anti-incumbency? Or is it a vote of confidence in the ruling dispensation?

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday hinted at an alliance with BSP’s Mayawati post a hung assembly prediction in UP by the various exit polls.

Akhilesh told BBC Hindi radio that if the SP-Congress combine falls short of a majority, they won’t mind joining hands with the Mayawati’s BSP in a bid to keep BJP out of UP.

Nobody wants the BJP to remote control UP in case of a President’s rule in the state, Yadav told BBC in an interview hours before the Exit polls results were announced by the TV channel.

It was billed as the big semifinal before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. It was seen as a referendum on Narendra Modi government’s demonetisation decision. Assembly elections in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur were held from February 4 to March 9.
