Ex-Congress leader Purandeswari hints she may join BJP
Purandeswari said she had quit the Congress with a 'heavy heart' over the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Hyderabad: Ex-Congress leader and former Union minister D Purandeswari has indicated that she may join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Addressing the media in her Lok Sabha seat Visakhapatnam on Thursday, Purandeswari said she resigned from the Congress with a "heavy heart protesting against bifurcation" and will now be meeting BJP president Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Friday to explore the option of joining the saffron party.

She will contest from Vishakapatnam, if the deal is sealed.

Purandeswari is the daughter of Telugu cinema legend and former Andhra Pradesh CM NT Rama Rao. Her elder sister Bhuveneshwari is married to TDP chief and former CM N Chandrababu Naidu. But they are not in good terms with the TDP chief.
