New Delhi: A triangular contest is being witnessed in Vikaspuri constituency of West Delhi where all three main rivals - Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party - are fighting hard to win the seat.
The constituency will be voting for the third time as it was formed after delimitation in 2008 and has been bagged by Congress and AAP in 2008 and 2013 respectively.
Even as candidates are out campaigning not many people know about them. The voters say there is no clear favourite and all three candidates are in the running.
While AAP is banking on Mahendra Yadav who won in 2013, the Congress candidate is Nand Kishore and BJP's Sanjay Singh.
It is a big seat with a majority of voters from the middle and upper middle class. There are a total of 3,25,246 voters. In the last Assembly elections, AAP won the seat riding on the anti-corruption issue which saw the well-to-do sections of the society backing the party but most of them have deserted AAP and are rooting for the BJP now as they are disillusioned by Arvind Kejriwal's brand of confrontational politics.
"There will be a tough fight between the BJP and Congress. But if BJP loses, then it is because of the infighting in the party. There is no presence of AAP here," says Bal Kishan Indoriya, a resident.
Backing his opinion was Kamaljeet Kaur, a housewife. She says, "Tough contest will be between Congress and BJP but the former's image has been marred with corruption cases."
But there are a few who want an AAP government.
"The BJP will win from here but I want AAP to come to power. If the same party comes in Centre and state, then there would be hardly any development, but if another party comes then there will be competition to prove itself. Congress is nowhere in the fight," said Satpal Singh, a restaurant owner.
All the parties will have to now charge up their campaign to win the seat and a small mistake can cost them a lot. If BJP wins Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi should be credited.
