A total of 55 AAP MLAs met Sunita Kejriwal, who, according to party sources, is likely to assume a "significant role" in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the coming days.

With Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal having been sent to Tihar Jail till April 15 in connection with an excise policy-linked money laundering case, his party MLAs met his wife Sunita and told her that “under no circumstances the CM should not resign and the government can run from jail”.

A total of 55 AAP MLAs met Sunita Kejriwal, who, according to party sources, is likely to assume a “significant role” in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the coming days.

AAP MLA and lawyer Somnath Bharti said, “All MLAs have convened their message to Sunita Kejriwal. They have said Arvind Kejriwal should not resign at any cost. They are united. People of Delhi are angry with BJP, and BJP is going to lose all seven seats in Delhi.”

Kejriwal is the fourth top AAP leader to be lodged in the Tihar Jail after his former deputy Manish Sisodia, ex-health minister Satyendar Jain, and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.

‘Not Good To Continue…’: Ex-Supreme Court Judge

Talking to News18 on whether Arvind Kejriwal should continue as the Delhi CM, former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Ajay Rastogi, said it was a unique situation and even the Constitution makers did not think about it.

“It’s a unique situation of which even the Constitution-makers never thought of,” he said.

Expressing his views, he said, “My personal view is that he is holding a high public office, but if in custody, I feel that it is not good to continue.”

“Let us see past examples, from Jayalalithaa, Lalu Prasad Yadav to Hemant Soren, all had resigned. These precedents show that they must have felt that they must resign owing to public morality,” he explained.

“And practically, when the CM is in custody, all papers that the CM wants to sign have to go through the jail superintendent,” he added.
