Kerala and TN have been at loggerheads about decommissioning the dam. One calls it unsafe, the other, necessary.
New Delhi: An empowered panel appointed by the Supreme Court on the Mullaperiyar issue will be meeting on Monday to discuss the findings of technical experts who visited Kerala recently. The panel is headed by former Chief Justice of India AS Anand.
The Kerala government wants the 116-year-old dam decommissioned claiming that numerous quakes have rendered it unsafe.
Tamil Nadu, however, claims that numerous livelihoods are dependent upon the water that flows from the dam.
Tamil Nadu wants the water level of the dam to be raised.
