Congress hits out at PM for asking leaders not to remark on rape cases
Modi had asked political leaders not to carry out psychological analysis of rape and also to stay away from making statements on the same.

New Delhi: Congress on Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks calling for a restrain from making statement always on incidents of rape and recalled that the BJP leader had earlier termed Delhi a rape capital.

"The Prime Minister advised to keep quite on the incidents of rape and not make statements all the time. This is the same Narendra Modi who had talked of girlfriend worth Rs 50 crore and called Delhi a rape capital. People of the country are surprised at how Modi has got enlightenment all of a sudden," Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmad told reporters.

The Congress leader was apparently referring to Modi's controversial tweet a few months back about the sweat equity row surrounding then Union minister Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar who is no more. "After jibe of Rs 50 crore girlfriend, hue & cry on rape incidents in non-BJP ruled states, now PM Modi says respect women and keep mum on rapes," Ahmad said on micro-blogging website Twitter.

Replying to the President's motion in Lok Sabha, Modi had on Wednesday asked leaders to stay away from commenting on rape cases. "I appeal to our political leaders that we should not carry out psychological analysis of rape. Is it correct to make a statement always? While can't we just keep quiet. Respect and security for women should be the topmost priority of the entire people," he had said.
