New Delhi: It has been a close contest in 13 seats of Punjab between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party, which was making its political debut on the national platform. The BJP and its ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has won five seats and is leading in one seat while the Congress has been reduced to just three seats. In 2009 general elections, the Congress had won eight seats.

But the big shocker has been the loss of BJP's Arun Jaitley to Congress leader Amarinder Singh in Amritsar by 1,02,770 votes.

The AAP has already won four seats. AAP leader Harinder Singh Khalsa defeated Congress's Sadhu Singh by 54,144 votes in the Fatehgarh Sahib seat and in Faridkot, AAP's Sadhu Singh defeated SAD's Paramjit Kaur Gulshan by 1,72,516 votes. In Patiala, senior Congress leader Preneet Kaur was defeated by AAP's Dr Dharam Vira Gandhi by 20,942 votes. In Sangrur, AAP's Bhagwant Mann defeated SAD's Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa by 2,11,721 votes.

Even though the party crossed the half-way mark of 272 on its own, the party suffered a setback as senior leader Arun Jaitley lost to Congress's Captain Amarinder Singh from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat.

Former Union Minister Ambika Soni is defeated by SAD's Prem Singh Chandumajra in Anandpur Sahib by 23,697 votes and in Gurdaspur, actor-turned-politician Vinod Khanna defeated Congress's Pratap Singh Bajwa by 1,36,065 votes.

In Bathinda, SAD's Harsimrat Kaur Badal defeated Congress's Manpreet Singh Badal by 19,395 votes. In Firozpur, SAD's Sher Singh Ghubaya defeated Congress's Sunil Jakhar by 31,420 votes. In the Firozpur seat SAD's Sher Singh Ghubaya defeated Sunil Jakhar by 31,420 votes.

In Khadoor Sahib, SAD's Ranjit Singh Brahmpura defeated Congress's Harminder Singh Gill by 1,00,569 votes.

In Hoshiarpur, BJP's Vijay Sampla defeated Congress's Mohinder Singh Kaypee by 13,582 votes.

In Ludhiana, AAP candidate HS Phoolka is defeated by Congress's Ravneet Singh Bittu by 19,709 votes.
