Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb has said the Congress is “collapsing” and had lost elections under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"After Manmohanji took over, the Congress faced many elections. They were defeated in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and I don't know what is going to happen in Karnataka and after that what will remain with Congress," Bhattacharya told a TV channel.
The Chief Minister said doubted Congress’ capability to win elections. "I doubt whether they will be able to fight the elections properly. They are collapsing," he said in remarks uncharacteristic of him.
Buddhadeb comments came days after Congress president Sonia Gandhi lashed out at his government for its handling of the agitation in Nandigram.
Addressing a rally in Murshidabad in April, Sonia had said the Congress supported the people of Nandigram in their difficulties.
