New Delhi: It is bouquets galore for Congress youth icon Rahul Gandhi with the party winning the 'semifinals' to the Lok Sabha 3-2.
The AICC general secretary is being referred to as the "third pole" in the party after its President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for rejuvenating the campaign style of the 123-year old party.
The scion of the Gandhi-Nehru family campaigned extensively and party's victory in Rajasthan is being attributed to the widely circulated photograph of the youth leader recently, in which he was carrying mud as part of 'shram daan'.
"Rahul will play a bigger role in the future. He has become the third pole in the Congress after the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi," AICC general secretary Prithviraj Chavan told reporters.
He said, "Sixty-five per cent people are young in this country. Rahul has emerged as a lead campaigner for the party.
He has great appeal for the youth of the country and Youth Congress workers."
Gandhi campaigned in Chhattisgarh when the party president was not well and took an active role in getting party tickets for Youth Congress leaders.
"Rahul Gandhi was a star campaigner and a big attraction. His campaign helped the party in a big way," Congress media department chairman M Veerappa Moily said.
Another AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh too heaped praise on the Amethi MP and said he was making a big impact.
Congress circles said that they have a youth 'brand ambassador' in Rahul and this was something which none of the other parties have.
"None of the parties have a youth leader like Rahul and it certainly went to our advantage and would continue to do so in the Lok Sabha elections," said a senior Congress leader.
