BJP tries to cover up Advani's regret issue

New Delhi: The BJP was trying to cover up its regret over LK Advani's apology to Sonia Gandhi.

Just moments after the news broke that LK Advani had in a letter expressed regret to Sonia Gandhi for his comments earlier that she and Rajiv Gandhi held accounts in foreign banks abroad, many within the BJP held their head in despair.

Sources said that the feeling was that this would weaken their campaign against the UPA over the black money issue.

Surprisingly, the BJP, at pains to cover up its infighting, had a defence for the 'loh purush' coming in from his known baiter.

"This will strengthen our campaign as it shows his decency," said senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi.

But the damage has been done. After his famous remark defending Jinnah, the latest one from Advani has strengthened the anti-Advani camp, who have been slowly trying to ease him out.

It's not often that netas express regret in public and Advani's backtracking has made the Congress smile at a time when It's been made uncomfortable over the black money issue.
