BJP seeks Bharti's resignation over Khirki raid
The BJP has been mounting pressure on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to take action against Somnath Bharti.

New Delhi: Upping the ante against Aam Aadmi Party government, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday held a protest march from Delhi Vidhan Sabha to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung's house demanding Law Minister Somnath Bharti's resignation in the Khirki Extension case. The BJP has been mounting pressure on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to take action against Bharti.

Earlier, BJP MLA MS Sirsa said, "Arvind Kejriwal has offered us tea but we are not here to have tea. We are demanding the resignation of Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti. This is a serious matter and it needs to be resolved seriously."

However, the AAP continues to support Bharti though the party distanced itself from his recent comments. A few days ago, the AAP released a video which allegedly shows African women exchanging drugs. The party said that the video showed that Bharti did nothing wrong.

Bharti has earlier hit out at the Delhi Commission for Women by calling it a political organisation and accusing its Chairperson Barkha Singh of being a Congress member. Bharti said, "Delhi Commission for Women is a political organisation. Barkha Singh is from Congress, that's why she is in so much haste."

Bharti had conducted a raid in Khirki Extension and accused some Ugandan women of being involved in prostitution and drug trafficking.

AAP spokesperson Dilip Pandey had said earlier, "There were rumours that the AAP volunteers caught those foreign women whereas they were caught by the police. Video itself is the proof as it shows exchange of white powder inside the car."

The Ugandan women continue to stick by their statement. One of them said, "Being black is a problem. They used racist remarks."

What remains to be seen is will AAP give in to demands of sacking Bharti or will it continue to back their minister despite growing pressure.
