Clarifying his remark that condom ads by actor Sunny Leone promote instances of rape in the country, Communist Party of India leader Atul Anjan claimed that his statement has been twisted. Anjan said that he did not mean that such ads promote rapes but maintained that they are unethical.
"Vested interests have twisted my statements. I did not say that they promote rapes but these are highly objectionable ads. In the name of acting, Sunny Leone is promoting vulture culture," he said.
Unfazed by the criticism for his remark, Anjan mocked the fans of the actor. "She is a world known porn star. She has nothing to do with India. I apologise to her fans who want to watch her porn films. Please go ahead and watch it and show it your family," he said.
Claiming that he is not against condoms, he reiterated that such ads should not be played. "I will never support such ads. Such ads kill sensibility of people. I agree with government ads which promote condoms but these ads cannot be allowed," he maintained.
Making personal attacks against Sunny, he even went on to say that she cannot be treated as a symbol of dignity. "I cannot support the view that Sunny Leone is a symbol of dignity. I'm for the dignity of women of the country but in a democratic country, vulgarity cannot be allowed. Should I say porn films should be allowed. Never! She is not a symbol of ethos. We need to have social responsibility. The way she is presenting herself is not ethical," he said.
He even claimed that anyone who watches her porn "will puke in 2 minutes". "Just go through her ad, 1st word, 2nd word, 3rd word, then all the sentences are vulgar and objectionable. She has no right to use vulgar words in public," he said.
He asserted that he has always stood for the dignity of women. "I have always been against rapes. I came out in the open in the Nirbhaya case for action against the culprits too. Rape is a social crime," Anjan said.
At an event in Uttar Pradesh, Anjan had on Tuesday said, "there is a woman Sunny Leone. She has worked in many nude films. There is an ad - she's lying down and one man is coming to her. It's a condom ad. If they are shown everywhere on TV and newspapers, rape incidents will increase," Communist Party of India leader Atul Kumar Anjan said.
He even went on to say that "these ads develop sexuality and destroys sensibility." Anjan also said that he had never watched a single porn film in his life. But when he did watch porn for the first time, he "felt like vomiting after watching it for two minutes."
