Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday recollected the infamous Ayodhya firing incident in which around 17 Kar Sewaks were killed after the state police opened fire on them in 1990 when Samajwadi Party (SP) patron late Mulayam Singh Yadav was the chief minister. Adityanath assured Ram Bhakts that there would be no more hurdle between Bhakts and their Ram.
“Gunshots will no more be heard on the streets of Ayodhya, curfew will no more be clamped in Ayodhya, nor will there be any obstruction in carrying out its ‘Parikrama’. Now, there will be Deepotsav and Ram Utsav all around, and the streets of Ayodhya will reverberate with Ram Bhajans because the establishment of Ram Lalla here today also marks the announcement of Ram Rajya,” said Yogi Adityanath while taking pot-shots at late Mulayam Singh about the Ayodhya firing incident.
What was the Ayodhya Firing Incident?
In September 1990, when the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Shiv Sena campaigned for the Ram temple, demanding the construction of Ram temple at the Ram Janmabhoomi site in Ayodhya, the situation turned volatile with LK Advani holding a Rath Yatra and the VHP mobilising the crowd to the site.
Then Uttar Pradesh CM and Samajwadi Party’s founding member Mulayam Singh announced a complete lockdown in Ayodhya, and assured everyone that “no bird would be able to fly in Ayodhya”. On October 30, 1990, a good majority of Kar Sevaks reached Ayodhya and the security forces caught off guard, following which the police opened fire. On November 2, the police opened fire for the second time on the Kar Sevaks, resulting in the death of around 17 of them.
‘Think of Treta Yuga’
In his address today at the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the idol of Lord Ram in Ayodhya, which was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Adityanath said the 500-year-old dream of the people of India has come true. He said it was for the first time in history that a major community had to struggle for so long to get their God his rightful place.
He said there are some feelings in his heart that cannot be expressed in words. “It’s the time when everyone is emotional and happy. At this historic moment, every city and village in the country has turned into Ayodhya, and every path seems to be heading towards the Ram Janmabhoomi,” he added.
He also participated in the Ram Temple rituals in which PM Modi was the lead devotee.
The Pran Pratishtha ceremony took place during the ‘Abhijit’ Muhurta between 12:29:03 pm to 12:30:35 pm, a period of just 84 seconds.
The CM also said the transformation of the ‘holy city’ will make people recollect the ‘Treta Yuga’. “You should visit Ayodhya after January 22, it will make you think of the ‘Treta Yuga.”
The mega event, however, was boycotted by the Congress and a few other opposition parties — most of them part of the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). They called the event a “political event by the BJP”.
The Shankaracharyas of the Govardhana Peeth in Odisha’s Puri and the Jyotir Mutt in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli did not attend today’s event in Ayodhya, citing, the presence of PM Modi in the sanctum sanctorum among other reasons.
