G-20 Summit: Kant said that the virtual summit would give PM Modi, the opportunity to interact with world leaders for a second time during India's Presidency

India, which is all set to host a virtual summit of G-20 leaders on Wednesday, said the meeting will provide an opportunity for the world leaders to discuss the implementation of the Delhi Declaration, enhance cooperation on critical issues and address lapses in global governance.

Addressing media ahead of the summit, India’s G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said that since the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Declaration during the successful meeting in September, the world has witnessed a series of critical global events and challenges.

“The virtual summit will provide an opportunity not only to discuss the implementation of the leaders’ declaration but also for the leaders to share views and enhance cooperation on critical challenges that we confront and address gaps in global governance, reaffirm our existing commitment to SDGs and move toward a reinvigorated multilateral system that is better positioned to positively impact people’s lives,” PTI quoted Kant as saying.

Talking about the agenda of the second G-20 meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Modi under India’s presidency, Kant said while the development of the world will number one topic for deliberation, other world issues will also be discussed.

Describing it a “rare and exceptional” platform, Kant added that the virtual summit would give the Indian prime minister, the opportunity to interact with world leaders for a second time during India’s G-20 Presidency before it passes on to Brazil in December.
