Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan lavished big praise on premier paceman Jasprit Bumrah and called him one of the biggest ambassadors of fast bowlers in the cricketing world. Bumrah has been the leader of the Indian pace attack for the past few years. However, the injuries have also hampered his career a bit in recent times. The right-arm pacer missed competitive cricket for about a year after he sustained a back injury in 2022.
Bumrah made a sensational comeback in white-ball cricket with the Ireland tour last year and has been performing consistently well for Team India. There were concerns over his fitness for Test format after the back surgery but Bumrah put an end to it by a scintillating performance in Test series against South Africa.
He was named Player of the Series against South Africa for claiming 12 wickets in two matches.
Pathan heaped massive praise on Bumrah and said if every team gets a bowler like him then the red-ball cricket will keep growing.
“If you are prioritizing red-ball cricket even after surgery, you won’t get a bigger brand ambassador than him in bowling. If every country gets a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah, Test cricket will keep flourishing,” said Pathan on Star Sports.
He produced a sensational spell in the second innings of the Cape Town Test to register his name in the record books. Bumrah claimed a six-wicket haul to dismantle the Proteas batting line-up. With his sensational spell, Bumrah became the Indian bowler with second-joint most five-fors in SENA countries. Meanwhile, it was his third fifer on the Proteas soil.
He played a crucial role in India’s first-ever Test win in Cape Town to draw two-match Test series 1-1.
Pathan said he is highly impressed with Bumrah’s attitude and is an inspiration for players around the world.
“I have fallen in love with Jasprit Bumrah’s attitude, especially the way he has bowled after back surgery. He is not only an inspiration for Indian cricket but also for world cricket,” said Pathan.
