Instagram has offered the ability to share stories and notes with ‘Close Friends’ for a while now. If you are not aware of the feature, it is essentially a way to only share certain stories with people of your choosing; this means people outside this list won’t be able to see any of your stories.
Now, Mark Zuckerberg, on his Meta broadcast channel, announced that “Close Friends” is expanding to Feed and Reels. This means you will be able to post more types of content within a smaller group.
Notably, the ‘Close Friends’ feature was first introduced in 2018 as a means to only share one’s stories with a close group of people to maintain privacy. Instagram users can now do the same with their feed posts and Reels. This allows users to freely share specific posts and Reels that they might typically avoid posting publicly.
If you think about it, being able to post for only a specific group of people helps users limit their reach to only a private community of sorts. This may create a more private experience for Instagram users without actually making their accounts ‘Private.’ All followers and people visiting the page won’t see these specific posts.
How To Share A Post or Reel Only With Close Friends?
To share a specific post only with your close friends, head to the ‘Audience’ option available when you are about to share a post. Open the ‘Audience’ section and then select ‘Close Friends.’ There’s also the option to share with ‘Everyone,’ but that isn’t new. Now, whenever you share media this way, a green star will appear on the post—indicating that it is meant for your close friends.
