Congress Goes for Crowdfunding, Goofs Up ‘Donate for Desh’ Website; BJP Calls Them ‘Unprofessional’
A BJP leader in the IT department said when launching a campaign, one should book 4-5 associated domain names, block the social media handles on X, Instagram and Facebook. The fact that the Congress has been sleeping over it shows its ‘unprofessionalism’

The Congress has announced to go for crowdfunding, calling the campaign ‘Donate for Desh’, but oddly its website takes you to the BJP membership page where you can make a donation for the saffron party. This has left many Congress supporters baffled, but News18 has learnt that the BJP has not bought the domain themselves.

“Congress had announced its plan on December 16 without buying the website domain name or booking the Twitter handle. There may be some BJP supporter who had immediately bought it and redirected to our official website. But I can confirm, we haven’t bought it,” said a senior BJP leader, adding that it shows the lack of seriousness on part of Congress.

Right now, if you click on www.donatefordesh.org, it automatically redirects you to BJP’s website. Meanwhile, ‘Donate for Desh’s dotcom version is being used by a website for its crowdfunding.

Amid confusion, it took Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to go on to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), and clarify the name of the website where Congress supporters can donate. The name of the domain is www.donateinc.in.

While Rahul Gandhi talked about the “vision of India” and “complete justice” in his post along with a short audio visual, the damage was already done by that time.

“Whenever you launch a campaign, first thing to do is to book those 4-5 domain names, block the social media handles on X, Instagram and Facebook. The fact that the Congress has been sleeping over it shows their unprofessionalism,” said a BJP leader associated with its IT Department.

Sources in the Congress president’s office are insisting they never wanted to buy the domain name ‘Donate for Desh’ in the first place so the question of alleged laxity does not arise.

News18 reached out to senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, but there was no response from him till the filing of this story.

What's your reaction?
