Mumbai’s Laulbagcha Raja enjoys the love, support and warmth of his devotees from across the world, however, Lord Ganesha lovers also offer huge donations to the pandal every year. In a video, which has gone viral on social media, volunteers at Mumbai’s Ganesh Pandal can be seen counting the donations they received this year.

In a minute-long clip shared by news agency PTI, the volunteers can be seen sitting in a circle and counting a massive stack of cash received in the form of donations. In the stack, several notes of various denominations from Rs 2000 to Rs 10 are visible.

In the other part of the video, organisers can be seen carrying other articles including pieces of jewellery in a bag. A silver modak, and gold articles including necklaces, earrings and bangles along with other valuables were found in the donation bag.

Lalbaugcha Raja or ‘King of Lalbaug’, located in Putlabai Chawl, is the most visited Ganesh idol in Mumbai. Every year, lakhs of devotees throng the Lalbaugh market to visit the Lalbaugcha Raja.

The tradition here dates back to 1934 when the first idol was installed by the Lalbaug Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal following which it became an iconic symbol of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Mumbai.

Several celebrities and political leaders also visit the Lalbaugcha Raja pandal to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha. Earlier, famous industrialist and Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani also visited Lalbaugcha Raja and offered a huge garland of Rs 2000 notes.

Also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi, this festival is one of the most eagerly awaited, popular, and widely celebrated in India. The excitement, enthusiasm and joy associated with this occasion is unparalleled. It is an elaborate Hindu festival that spans over 10 days.
