The highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 Marathi film Naal is gearing up for release and the recently unveiled teaser is generating significant buzz.
The teaser of Naal 2 made its debut on YouTube via the Zee Music Marathi channel, capturing the attention of eager audiences. Posted on October 6, the teaser has already garnered thousands of views and garnered hundreds of likes on the platform.
Viewers have flooded the comments section with expressions of anticipation and excitement. One user praised the film, stating, “This has the potential to greatly boost Marathi cinema once again," while another noted the theme of adoption, saying, “Adoption is a divine bond… happens only for special people, be it Lord Krishna, Sita mata, Karna, Radharani, or today’s adopted children." The official release date for the film was also revealed, with Naal 2 set to hit screens this Diwali on November 10, 2023.
The teaser offers a glimpse of the film’s protagonist, Chaitya, portrayed by Shreenivas Pokale, now all grown up. The first instalment of the film explored the theme of adoption and Chaitya’s journey upon discovering the truth about his origins. Notably, Nagraj Manjule and Devika Daftardar reprise their roles as Chaitya’s parents in the sequel.
Directed by Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti, Naal 2 features a talented cast including Shreenivas Pokale, Devika Daftardar and Nagraj Manjule. Given the critical and commercial success of the first instalment, expectations are running high for this sequel.
The original Naal, released in 2018, retained the same cast and director for its follow-up. The film’s music was composed by Advait Nemlekar and it was produced by a team comprising Nagraj Manjule, Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti, Vaishali Viraj Londhe, Nikhil Varadkar, Nitin Prakash Vaidya, Prashant Madhusudhan and Pethe, under the banner of Zee Studios.
The film received accolades, including the award for Best First Film of a Director at the 66th National Film Awards in 2019. It garnered positive reviews from critics, with The Times of India describing it as “a beautiful piece of work" primarily due to its emotional storytelling and impactful performances.
