Karan Johar Forces Deepika To Compliment Katrina Kaif in Viral Video: 'Loved Her In Dhoom, No?'

Karan Johar was seen forcing Deepika Padukone to give Katrina Kaif a compliment in a video going viral. The filmmaker was seen hosting a panel discussion with Aamir Khan and Deepika for NDTV in what appears to be in 2014. During the panel, Karan turned towards Deepika and asked to name performances that impressed her. Before she could answer, he teased Deepika by saying that she will name Sridevi from Chandini. Deepika, who appeared to be awkward at this point, named Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine, which released in 2013.

The director was unimpressed with her answer and replied, “There you go. Whenever you a favourite actress, it’s always Sridevi or then it is a Hollywood counter part. We’ll never get an Indian answer.”

When Deepika kept quiet, Karan said, “And we are still not getting one.” He then brought up Katrina Kaif’s name. “You (Deepika) loved Katrina in Dhoom. No?” Karan said, prompting an answer from Deepika. Deepika, who was visibly embarrassed, replied, “She was fantastic.” Karan added, “Say Katrina Kaif was fantastic, that’s the quote.”

Deepika then praised Katrina for her hardwork. “She is one of the most hardworking people I have ever known,” she said. Aamir agreed with Deepika and said he could vouch for it too. Karan concluded the conversation by praising Deepika as well. “And so are you, well done. Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif,” Karan said, calling them hardworking stars.

Not many might know but Deepika was the first choice for Dhoom 3. As per a Hindustan Times report, the role of the acrobatic dancer, Aaliya, went to Deepika. But she reportedly turned it down and the role eventually landed in Katrina’s lap. Dhoom 3 starred Katrina Kaif, Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Uday Chopra, and was released in 2013.
