New Delhi: As the five actresses of Angry Indian Goddesses settled down for a free wheeling chat along with their director Pan Nalin at the IBNLive studios, there was a lot happy chatter around and especially of the happy, excited kind
So when we finally settled down to ask questions to the AIG crew about the film, the first question that we asked was why was film called ‘Angry Indian Goddesses’. Considering the film is a female buddy film and the trailers made the film look like a fun film, we wondered why the title of the film was such.
“If you walked down the street and have ten great conversation with ten different women – you will know why the title is such," explained the director. “While we were researching and talking to women, very often in the first 15 minutes of the conversation there would be an anger about something – even though we do not ask them or probe them. Sometime they were on smaller issues, sometimes bigger larger issues happening in the country but there was anger," explained Nalin.
Actress Sandhya Mridul chipped in “The film is trying to address certain issues that exist in the society and through our film we want to bring a change. It is important to be angry because otherwise it means you are ignorant about the things that are happening in the country. So anger is good, it brings some good change."
Being a female centric film most feel it is about male bashing. Is it true, we asked. “Not at all," said the actresses in unison. “We are not angry all the time in the film. We have happy moments as well. The film is a blast," added newcomer Pavleen Gujral. Sandhya Mridul added that men in their life, family members and friends, loved the film. "My brother loved the film. He is so proud of all of us. So no bashing really of men," said Mridul.
“Women as heroes in films are few. Barring a few, most films don’t have women as central characters. But we needed a good story first. Story has to be strong and emotional. We were not clear if it would be a buddy film when we were researching but it all came together in the right way," explained the director.
