The film Guide released in 1965 starring Dev Anand created a massive buzz among the fans after its release. Though it was a super hit film, it sparked many controversies. Before its release, there were various disputes among the producers. Adding to it, several controversies also sparked regarding the female casting of the film. Though the director of the film, Vijay Anand, initially rejected the lead actress, she later received massive applause after the release of the film.
Waheeda Rehman was seen in the lead female role in the film. Before the shooting of the film started, Dev Anand reportedly argued with the director to cast Waheeda Rehman in the female lead role. After months of conflict, she was offered the film. Various Bollywood stars failed to understand the storyline of the film. Many of them said that the film would be a big flop. Proving all of them wrong, the film recorded a massive box office collection and also clinched several awards.

Soon after the film hit the theatres, it created history. Guide won seven Filmfare awards. Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman’s chemistry became superhit and later they worked together in many hit films.
Alongside Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman, various well-known actors including Leela Chitnis, Anwar Hussain, Rashid Khan and Kishore Sahu were seen in the film.
