When Director Sudha Kongara Refuted Reports Of Making A Movie On Ratan Tata's Life
In 2022, there were reports that filmmaker Sudha Kongara was set to direct a biographical drama based on the life of Ratan Tata.

Renowned Padma Vibhushan awardee and former Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata passed away on Wednesday, October 9 at the age of 86. Ratan Tata had endeared himself to common citizens due to his kindheartedness and innumerable philanthropic activities, and his death had led to a shadow of grief overshadowing the festive season in the country. In the wake of his demise, it is notable that two years back, there were widespread rumours that a biopic on the life of Ratan Tata was in the works.

In 2022, there were widespread reports that filmmaker Sudha Kongara, fresh off the success of her acclaimed film Soorarai Pottru, was set to direct a biographical drama based on the life of Indian industrialist Ratan Tata. The excitement around the project was fueled by her storytelling skills, which shone in Soorarai Pottru, a semi-biographical film inspired by the life of Captain GR Gopinath, founder of Air Deccan.

At the time, Sudha Kongara was also occupied with directing the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The prospect of her collaborating on a biopic about Ratan Tata drew significant attention, considering his vast influence on Indian industry and philanthropy. Even the names of the likes of Suriya, R Madhavan and Abhishek Bachchan had surfaced to star in the film.

However, Sudha Kongara put all rumours to rest, with a post on X, where she mentioned that although she was a huge admirer of the businessman and philanthropist, she did not intend to make a biopic on his life at the moment.

We may not be having a biopic on Ratan Tata anytime soon but for those interested in his eventful life, his biography is always out there for purchase. The book, titled Ratan Tata: A Life, has been authored by former IAS Dr Thomas Mathew and published by HarperCollins. It provides a detailed insight into the life of Ratan Tata, chronicling important events in his professional and personal lives and highlighting his achievements.
