Popular Marathi horror film franchise Zapatlela is set to release its third instalment Zapatlela 3, the makers announced yesterday. The film’s director as well as the original star Mahesh Kothare shared the exciting news on his official social handles with a brand new poster for the release.
The first instalment of the hit Marathi film was released in 1993, which starred Mahesh Kothare as the lead. As per the latest updates, a third instalment of the film is set for a release in 2025, titled Zapatlela 3. Mahesh Kothare shared the announcement on his official Instagram handle, with an official poster. He captioned the post in Marathi, which roughly translates to, “Yes it’s true !!! Yes true !!! Tatya Scorpion is coming back !!! 2025 in theaters! 2025 in theaters!”
The new poster depicts the half-torn faces of the film’s ghost Tatya Vinchu and the lead Adinath Kothare, joined into one.
According to reports, Zapatlela 3 is going to be directed by Mahesh Kothare, who also helmed the last two instalments of the franchise. It is going to be produced by Rajnish Khanuja as well as Mahesh Kothare under the banners of Select Media Holdings and Jenma Films International. Adinath Kothare will reportedly be seen reprising his role from the last release.
Mahesh Kothare shared his excitement for the upcoming release. He said in an interview, “After the two successful franchises, we owe it to our audience to deliver a compelling story.” The producer Rajnish Khanuja added, “Zapatlela 3 promises to be an exhilarating ride, and we can’t wait to share it with audiences worldwide.”
The horror comedy’s second part was released on June 7, 2013. It starred Adinath Kothare, Sonalee Kulkarni, Mahesh Kothare, Makarand Anaspure, Sai Tamhankar and many more. It was made under the banners of Kothare Kothare Vision and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. The first film of the franchise was released on April 16, 1993, starring Mahesh Kothare, Laxmikant Berde and Kishori Ambiye among others.
