Spider-Man Producer Amy Pascal Did Not Know Zendaya When She Auditioned For MJ

Hollywood star Zendaya is currently busy with the promotions of her upcoming film Challengers. The sports drama, directed by Luca Guadagnino, will release on April 26. And, Zendaya is leaving no stone unturned to leave a mark on the hearts of the audience. The actress is known for portraying the role of MJ in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man. And, we simply loved Zendaya and Tom Holland’s impeccable chemistry. But did you know Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal was not introduced to Zendaya’s achievements? We aren’t joking.

Pascal, during an interaction with Vogue magazine for its Zendaya cover story, admitted, “To be honest with you, neither Kevin Feige (Marvel Studios president) nor I knew who she was (when the actress initially auditioned for the role in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming).”

She added, “She was wearing no makeup and she was just dressed like a regular girl, and we were like, ‘Oh my God, she’s amazing. She has to be in the movie.’ And then we found out she was a totally famous person, and felt really stupid.”

Interestingly, Feige and Pascal, who initially were not introduced to Zendaya’s achievements, went on to produce all three of her Spider-Man movies in which she starred alongside her boyfriend Tom Holland. Meanwhile, Zendaya and Holland featured in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) together.

Earlier in 2023, reports circulated that the couple is likely to return for the fourth Spider-Man movie. However, neither Sony nor Disney have made any announcement yet. In an interaction with the media last year in November, Holland informed, “All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character.”

Apart from Holland, Pascal confirmed that the fourth Spider-Man movie will be made soon. She told Variety, “Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are.”

Coming back to Zendaya, the 27-year-old Euphoria star will soon be seen playing Tashi in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers. Apart from Zendaya, the film also stars Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor.
