Sonakshi Sinha reflects on growing up as Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter and how OTT has added new dimensions to her career, with her standout role in Prime Video's Dahaad.

During the CNN News18 Mumbai Townhall 2024, Sonakshi Sinha offered a candid glimpse into her childhood and her journey as Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter, while also discussing how OTT has transformed her acting career.

When asked about growing up as the daughter of the Bollywood icon, Sonakshi shared a surprisingly grounded perspective. “Honestly, when people ask me this, I don’t know what to say because I believe it was as normal as anyone else’s childhood. My upbringing was very much like my friends’ in Bombay. It wasn’t until I was seven or eight years old that I realised what my dad did,” Sonakshi recalled. “I would see people asking for autographs and large crowds around him, and that’s when it clicked. But I think the credit goes to my parents, especially my mom, for giving all three of us the most normal childhood despite dad’s hectic schedule with films and politics.”

Sonakshi added that the lack of social media at the time gave her and her siblings much-needed privacy. “There were no paparazzi constantly following me or my family, which allowed us to grow up away from the public eye,” she explained.

The conversation then shifted to Sonakshi’s successful OTT debut with Dahaad, where she portrayed Senior Inspector Anjali Bhaati, earning widespread praise for her powerful performance.

“Honestly, as an actor, I’ve always seen this as part of my job. I don’t differentiate between film and OTT,” Sonakshi shared. “I signed Dahaad before the lockdown, and the decision-making process wasn’t any different from picking a movie role. I loved the script, the premise and the character. Yes, it’s a longer format—shooting Dahaad was like shooting three films at once—but the essence of acting remains the same.”

She emphasised that, for her, it’s all about the craft, regardless of the platform. “Whether you put me on a big screen, small screen, or stage, it’s my job as an actor to perform. That’s what I do, and that’s what I’ll always do,” Sonakshi added.
