Shang-Chi Director To Helm Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4: Reports
Destin Daniel Cretton will reportedly take on the director's chair for Marvel and Sony's upcoming project, Spider-Man 4.

Spider-Man is set to swing back into action! With Jon Watts stepping away from the Spider-Man franchise, there’s been a flurry of speculation about who will steer the next chapter of Peter Parker’s journey. Among the names being discussed, Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is emerging as a frontrunner to direct Spider-Man 4. According to a Variety report, Cretton is in preliminary talks to helm the film, promising to inject new energy into the collaborative project between Sony and Marvel Studios.

While Sam Raimi was the first director to helm the OG Spider-Man trilogy, Marc Webb took over the Amazing Spider-Man movies, and Jon Watts directed the Tom Holland-starring ones. Destin Daniel Cretton will be the fourth director to take on a Spidey solo feature.

Sony and Marvel are yet to comment on the development.

On the other hand, Cretton, who has been a part of the Marvel family for a while, co-created the upcoming Wonder Man miniseries and is also developing a sequel to Shang-Chi. “The production for Spider-Man 4 is currently a priority for the studio,” the report adds.

What To Expect In Spider-Man 4?

After 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Doctor Strange’s magic spell that made the world forget Peter Parker’s identity, it seemed to have wrapped the three-film trilogy starring Tom Holland.

While reports suggest that Holland has been roped in for the fourth film, details about the project have not been revealed yet. In June 2023, the actor told The Hollywood Reporter, “The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why.” On the other hand, Sony producer previously teased that No Way Home might not be the final film as both studios are committed to continuing with Holland’s Spider-Man, mentioned a Screenrant report.

Amid this, another speculation continued about Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s possible return to the fourth one. Clearing the air, Garfield told IndieWire, “I mean, like the internet is a big place. I think there are a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks. So you might have been duped, I’m afraid.”
