Shabana Azmi revealed she and Javed Akhtar got into a fight over their Khandala house while it was being constructed. The actress, in a recent interview with Arbaaz Khan on his series ‘The Invincibles’, revealed that when Javed was constructing the couple’s Khandala home as a weekend getaway home. But as time passed by, the house was shaping out to be something different and that caused fights.
“When we started building it, I thought it was being made like a weekend home. As it was being constructed, it grew into becoming a mansion and it was completely beyond my vision, This led to us fighting every day. One day, his best friend, Farhaan, told me, ‘Dekho Shabana, ghar ko hai, ek insaan ka vision ho sakta hai. Javed aur tumhare beech mein ye farak hai ke wo Sholay hai aur tum Angoor. It was like a penny dropped on that and after that, I did not interfere in the house. And now what he has made, I really like it,” she said.
“I don’t think we could have gotten married to anybody else. There is so much similarity and there is a lot of dissimilarity also,” Shabana added.
In the episode, Shabana recalled Javed visiting her home and meeting Kaifi Azmi when he was becoming a poet. The actress revealed she initially maintained a distance from him. However, she fell for him after he watched Sparsh and recited every dialogue.
“After watching my film Sparsh (1980), he praised it a lot. Then he came home and invited all of us who worked on that film. He knew and remembered each and every dialogue in it and even the minute gestures of all of us. That’s when I understood that he had good sensibility. After that, whenever I sat with him, I felt that he was so similar to my father. I felt that he was the right person for me and that’s how the relationship started,” she said.
Shabana and Javed got married in December 1984.
