Rhea Chakraborty has launched a new chat show called Chapter 2 and the first guest on it is Sushmita Sen, former Miss Universe and actress. In the teaser, Rhea kicks off the show by teasing Sushmita, saying, “Do you know there’s a bigger gold digger than you in the room?” Sushmita responds, “Oh really?” to which Rhea quips, “Me.” Sushmita then sarcastically adds, “Oh, you also?” and Rhea says, “I’m the biggest one.”
It’s perhaps a dig at the announcement of Sushmita Sen and Lalit Modi that created a viral stir online back in 2022. Some openly created memes, talking about the contrast in their looks and wealth. Others, more subtly, found humour in their unexpected pairing. The prevailing sentiment among social media critics was labeling Sen as a “gold-digger.” Sushmita Sen was criticized on social media for her relationship with Lalit Modi. Many concluded she was with him for his money, despite Sen’s own successful career and charity work.
Sushmita had hit back with an Instagram post. She had written, “Perfectly centred in my being & my conscience…I love how nature merges all it’s creation to experience oneness…and just how divided we are, when we break that balance. It’s heartbreaking to see just how miserable & unhappy the world around us is becoming….The so called intellectuals with their idiosyncrasies….the ignorant with their cheap & at times funny gossip The friends I never had & the acquaintances I’ve never met….all sharing their grand opinions & deep knowledge of my life & character…monetising the ‘Gold Digger’ all the way!!! Ah these geniuses!!! I dig deeper than Gold…and I’ve always (famously) preferred Diamonds!!❤️And yes I still buy them myself!!! I love the all heart support my well wishers & loved ones continue to extend. Please know, your Sush is ABSOLUTELY fine.. cause I’ve never lived on the transient borrowed light of approval & applause. I am the Sun….perfectly Centred in my being & my conscience!!”
On the other hand, after the tragic death of Rhea’s then-boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020, she faced hateful messages on social media, being labeled a gold digger and opportunist who was accused of misusing Sushant’s money.
