Rajesh Vivek, a highly acclaimed actor in Indian cinema and theatre, is remembered on what would have been his 75th birthday today, January 31. Over a career spanning more than three decades, Rajesh delivered outstanding performances in films such as Veerana, Joshilaay, and Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India. Despite the commercial setback of Joshilaay, Rajesh’s portrayal of Jogi Thakur garnered attention and became a highlight, leaving a lasting impression on audiences.

In the horror film Veerana, directed by Shyam and Tulsi Ramsay, Rajesh excelled in the role of a Tantrik baba, marking a turning point in his career. His distinctive look and acting prowess in this film received acclaim from both audiences and critics.

Continuing to showcase his talent, Rajesh delivered memorable performances in blockbuster films like Jodhaa Akbar and Swades. He earned nominations for the International Indian Film Academy Awards, with a notable nod in the Best Comic Actor category for Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India. In this film, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Rajesh captivated audiences with his portrayal of the eccentric astrologer Baba Guran, who predicted the future in a captivating style.

An alumnus of the National School of Drama, Rajesh also held an MA in Ancient History and Archaeology from TD Degree College in 1970-71.
