Sherlock Holmes remains a cornerstone of literary history, continually inspiring adaptations across various formats and languages. The latest Indian take on this iconic character comes from director Srijit Mukerji. The title Shekhar Home offers a playful twist on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary detective.
Storyline: As per the streaming platform, Shekhar Home is set against the backdrop of a sleepy town called Lonpur in Bengal in the early 1990s where modern tech & telecom is unheard of. Here, Shekhar meets Jayvrat Sahni, another middle-aged bachelor, who becomes his house-mate due to a twist of fate. The duo end up solving mysteries across East India. Streaming from Aug 14.
The cast: The series features KK Menon as the iconic sleuth, with a stellar cast including Ranvir Shorey, Rasika Dugal, Kriti Kulhari and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. This marks the second collaboration between Mukherjee and Menon, following their work on Ray for Netflix, where Menon starred in the segment Behrupia, based on Satyajit Ray’s short story Bahurupi.
When and where to watch: The web series is set to premier on Jio Cinema Premium on August 14.
The first look of Kay Kay Menon as Shekhar Home has been revealed, featuring him in a coat and hat with a suspicious gaze. Menon’s portrayal of Shekhar Home brings to mind Sherlock Holmes, with the motion poster piecing together his look like a jigsaw puzzle. Sharing a video on Instagram, Kay Kay Menon wrote, “Piece it together and you’ll realize HE is the only one who can solve all mysteries. Shekhar Holmes coming soon exclusively on JioCinema Premium. Disclaimer: This Programme is an original work of fiction inspired by literary works by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle which are in the public domain.”
The video opens with a puzzle board where the puzzle pieces are not in order. One by one the pieces move sideways and upwards to create an impression of a person. When the puzzle is complete, a portrait photo of Kay Kay Menon becomes visible against the backdrop of vintage yellow paper
