Parineeti Chopra has made a mark for herself in Bollywood with stellar performances in films like Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar and Ishaqzaade. However, the actress has also seen a phase where her films were not performing well at the box office. Recently, Parineeti was asked if being Priyanka Chopra’s cousin helped her career. She recalled the low phase in her career and denied having any “unfair advantages”.
Speaking to Raj Shamani, Parineeti said, “If being related to Priyanka Chopra could’ve helped my career, then I wouldn’t have had any flops in my career. I’ve seen such lows in the last 10 years.” Parineeti addressed nepotism and said, “Every person who has had some association in the industry is actually under a lot of pressure. You might get your first chance, first audition, first meeting, but after that, you’re on your own and it’s more difficult to prove yourself. The comparisons will never end.
“So, what happens is, you can be a complete outsider, and it’s very difficult to survive. Or, you could be related to somebody and get that first meeting, but after that, your journey is your own,” she said. Parineeti added, “Nepotism may or may not be real, but favouritism is real.” The actress also mentioned that there are “camps” in Bollywood which she is not a part of and this has cost her some work.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Parineeti Chopra is currently seen in Amar Singh Chamkila. The film is directed by Imtiaz Ali and stars Diljit Dosanjh as the lead. The film is based on the life of the iconic Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila. Parineeti plays Amarjot in the film, who was Chamkila’s singing partner and second wife. The film is being received positively by the audience and the critics alike. Diljit and Parineeti’s performances received immense praise from viewers. The film is available to stream on Netflix.
