There will be no one like Suchitra Sen ever. While there have been many actresses before and after her, many of whom have created a niche of their own in Indian cinema, Sen's enigma continues to enchant generation aafter generation. Her grace, her immaculate style, her talent remain textbook examples for actresses in Bengali cinema. Born on 6th April, 1931 in Pabna district of East Bengal to a teacher father and a homemaker mother, Sen entered the film industry much after her marriage to industrialist Adinath Sen.
Suchitra Sen made her debut in films with 'Shesh Kothaay' in 1952, but it was never released. The following year saw her act opposite Uttam Kumar in 'Sharey Chuattor' which was an instant box-office hit. The film also launchedg Uttam-Suchitra as a leading pair, which became Bengal's most loved onscreen pair in later years.
As the actress's popularity grew with each passing year and numerous hits, her personal relation with her husband became strained. His untimely death made actress raise her daughter Moonmoon Sen on her own terms.
While she was a superstar in Bengali film industry, she initially had to struggle to make a mark in the Hindi film industry. Nevertheless, the actress won accolades for films like 'Devdas', 'Mamta' and 'Aandhi'.
We all know her as the superstar, but here are a few photos of the legend which prove that there was and perhaps never will be any other actress as ethereally beautiful like Suchitra Sen.
