No Question of Bowing Down, Will Not Mute ‘Gujarat’, ‘Cow’, ‘Hindutva’: Filmmaker Suman Ghosh
On Tuesday, The CBFC has asked the film maker to mute four words including 'cow' in his documentary on Amartya Sen.

Kolkata: Suman Ghosh – the director of documentary The Argumentative Indian on Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, refused to give up and said that he is not going to mute the four words 'Gujarat', 'Cow', 'Hindutva view of India' and 'Hindu India' for getting U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Speaking to News18, Ghosh said, “I am not going to give up and I am not going to remove those words suggested by the CBFC under any circumstances .”

When asked how long is will continue his fight with the CBFC, he said, “I am ready with my logic on why those words cannot be removed. If they keep on pressuring me to mute those words then it will not release in India.”

He said, “There is no question of bowing down. Already my documentary was screened in London and New York. In August, it is going to be screened at Washington DC and Log Angeles.”

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee backed the director and Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen and expressed her concern over the controversy.

On Tuesday, The CBFC has asked the film maker to mute four words including 'cow' in his documentary on Amartya Sen. The four words CBFC's regional office here wanted to be muted are 'Gujarat', 'Cow', 'Hindutva view of India' and 'Hindu India'.

"They have gone through my documentary for three hours and asked me to mute these four words. I already told them it is not possible for me. I am waiting for their final words in writing,” Ghosh said.

The documentary was made over a span of 15 years from 2002 and it is based on a conversation between Sen and his student economist Kaushik Basu.
