Designer Masaba Gupta had earlier revealed that she wanted to become an actor at the age of 14 but was stopped by mother, National Award-winning actress Neena Gupta. However, the latter has now revealed that she apologised to her daughter after watching her performance in the show Masaba Masaba.
Talking to Mid-day, Neena said, “I apologised to her for stopping her from being an actor.”
Neena said that there was some skepticism before as Masaba had never acted. “I was skeptical about how we would play ourselves on screen. Masaba had never acted before, so I wondered if she could pull it off. During script readings, Masaba would go too fast. I had to tell her to pause and understand every nuance. I did not interfere in any scene.”
Neena also addressed the fact that there was no mention of Masaba’s father, cricketer Vivian Richards. “There was no need (to mention him). The story does not begin from her birth, but at a later stage in her life,” she said.
Masaba Masaba is a semi-fictional show based on the life of the fashion designer. Apart from Masaba and Neena, Neil Bhoopalam and Satyadeep Misra play pivotal roles. The show has been directed by Sonam Nair and created by showrunner Ashvini Yardi.
