Kamal Haasan Says He Is 'Ever Thankful' To Shah Rukh Khan For THIS Reason: 'I Don't See...'
Released in 2000, Shah Rukh Khan played an extended cameo in Kamal Haasan's Hey Ram.

Kamal Haasan has said that he will forever be grateful to Shah Rukh Khan. On Tuesday, the actor-turned-politician was promoting his upcoming movie Indian 2 in Mumbai when he recalled working with SRK in Hey Ram. Released in 2000, Shah Rukh played an extended cameo in it.

“When we work together, we are just people. I don’t see a superstar, he does not see a super director. We are friends. As a matter of fact, Shah Rukh Sahib made that film for free. What more do you need? That cannot be done by a superstar. That can be done only by a fan and a good actor. I am ever thankful for him,” Kamal Haasan said.

Hey Ram explored the controversial circumstances surrounding Mahatma Gandhi’s death. Haasan not only played the lead in the film but also directed it. In January this year, Prasad Corporation of Chennai upgraded the classic film to an impressive 12K resolution. “Hey Ram (2000), the monumental film crafted by the legendary Kamal Haasan, is now reborn in a ground-breaking 12K resolution. Prasad proudly unites with the iconic Kamal Haasan in preserving cinematic history forever,” they wrote.

Meanwhile, during the trailer launch event on Tuesday, Haasan also opened up about the big budget of Indian 2. The superstar shared the film’s budget was impacted severely by the COVID-19 pandemic and the on-set accident in which three members of the crew reportedly died. He applauded director S Shankar and the producers for not putting the film on the backburner.

“The budget was not just decided by the director and the script. Covid decided our budget. Some of the accidents delayed the budget. The tenacity of the producer and the director must be applauded even before the film becomes a hit. It’s very easy to let go, if your hand is paining, you let go. Let me leave this and go to the other one. But They didn’t do that. Not to let go of this child, not to orphan this child was a decision taken by Lyca and Shankar,” Kamal Haasan said.

Indian 2 will hit theatres on July 12, 2024.
