American singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake is reportedly feeling frustration over the ongoing controversy surrounding his past relationship with singer Britney Spears, which, he says, is now overshadowing the release of his new music album. “Justin had hoped the backlash (from Spears’ memoir) would’ve blown over by now so that he could focus on his new album, which he’s very excited about, but every day is something new,” writes Page Six, quoting an exclusive source. However, there has been no comment regarding this matter from Timberlake’s representative. In October 2023, the 43-year-old former NSYNC member faced criticism after Spears, 42, disclosed in her book, The Woman in Me, that she had undergone an abortion during their relationship.
Spears revealed that Timberlake was displeased with the pregnancy and had no desire to become a father. Timberlake has yet to publicly address this revelation.
While initial backlash on Instagram led Timberlake to disable comments, the negative attention resumed when he announced his musical comeback in January, releasing the single Selfish from his upcoming album, Everything I Thought It Was. In response, fans of Britney successfully propelled Spears’ 2011 song, Selfish, to the top of iTunes, reports the portal.
In contrast to her fans, Spears took a gracious approach by praising Timberlake’s new track on Instagram and offering apologies to anyone offended by her memoir. She stated, “I apologise to anyone I may have offended with my bestselling memoir.”
However, as per the report, Timberlake responded to it during a New York City performance, saying, “I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise to absolutely nobody.” Spears quickly retaliated, accusing Timberlake of talking nonsense online.
The music superstars started dating in 1999 and broke up in 2002. At that time, Timberlake publicly claimed that Spears had cheated on him, a revelation she confirmed in her book. She also said that Timberlake did not acknowledge his alleged infidelity, informs Page Six.
The rocky history between Timberlake and Spears was previously explored in the New York Times’ 2021 documentary Framing Britney Spears, prompting Timberlake to publicly apologise. He stated, “I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right.” He also supported Spears during her court testimony about her 13-year conservatorship, which was terminated in November of that year.
Married to Jessica Biel since 2012, Timberlake and his wife share two sons – Silas, 8, and Phineas, 3. Meanwhile, Spears has recently been divorced from Sam Asghari. She shares two sons, Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden James, 17, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
